Title: Sword of the Lord
Post by: slugfencer on July 23, 2019, 11:20:56 PM
Sword of the Lord  POC  -You may discard this card to discard an evil non-human (or if Hero is opposed, begin a side battle between 2 evil humans).

does that mean you have to discard the sword  if you cause a side battle?

Yep.

To elaborate, if the side battle part was a separate sentence you wouldn’t have to discard the sword. But since the side battle portion is a part of the original sentence then the sword discard still applies to the side battle ability.

I think this ability could have been clearer had it been worded like this:

"You may discard this card.  If you do, you may discard an evil non-human, or if Hero is opposed, you may begin a side battle between 2 evil humans."

I've personally been using language in this manner ("You may X.  If you do...") for my current playtest cards when I want to do a more complex cost-benefit ability.  I will review with the other playtesters and see if this is something we'd like to standardize.
