On the card it says shuffle all opponents artifacts cards in play into their draw piles. But apparently, face down cards are not considered in play, so they do not get shuffled (or so it was ruled at regionals)... Then if thats true, Would New Beginning leave the face down cards? Theres something wrong here, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can not think of a reason why ANB would shuffle them, but it's been played that it does.
-
Well ANB shuffles all cards in play and set aside into decks... So are you saying it shouldn't? If so then I am very upset :(
-
Could someone post the actual Special Ability of A New Beginning + the errata for it? I can't for the life of me remember if it specifies in play.

So are face down artifacts considered to be set-aside?
-
I honestly think they are in play. For example, the lost soul that allows you to put an evil charachter face down in a site(or whatever the ability actually does) I believe is considered in play.
-
This is actually the best ANB thread I've seen in a long time. Face down arts aren't in play, yeah? So then why does ANB shuffle them?
-
The ironic thing is that this thread is actually about Split Altar LOL.
-
Well then alot of people have been playing ANB incorrect...lol...

Thank you! And great questions! Fortunately my presence in this game is rapidly fading so this kind of thing will no longer bother me... [=

So new beginning.... Doesnt shuffle face down artifacts (and all cards) (along with split altar)...?

Wait for a few Elders to confirm this because it's something that needs to be ruled upon...

ANB specifies that it shuffles all cards in the field of play which is how it can target the entire Artifact Pile. The Artifact Pile is in the field of play. Look at the game layout from the starter deck for reference.
-
in that case. does split altar also shuffle all opponents artifacts (face-up and face-down) into their owners draw piles?
-
The long standing ruling with ANB relies on this repeated phrase in the SA.
"ALL players shuffle ALL cards..."
It has been previously been ruled that the specific capitalization of "all" targets everything on the table, except for the LoR and DC piles as mentioned on the card. The errata seems to remove the capitalization, but I'd imagine that is an oversight more than an actual change.
Split Altar only targets artifacts, not artifact piles, which is why it only targets active artifacts.

oh ok thanks

It's a crazy, messed up world we're in. Two cards representing two of the greatest events in the Bible get no love, while everyone's groveling at the feet of an ugly, green lizard.
{sigh} Ah well, these sad times were prophesied.
;D
