in a type 1 deck, how many non-special ability lost soul sites can you have? for instance, in a 50 card deck, can i possibly have 7 babylons? 8 if i include hopper as well?

Hopper doesn't count as a LS for any deck building purposes.  You could have 7 Babylons, assuming you had no other sites.
