Title: Side battle clarification

Character A and B are fighting in battle and Character A starts a side battle between character B and Character C in the opponent's territory. Does Character B's ability reactivate?

A side battle begins a new battle phase, but does not begin a new battle, and from what I'm reading in the REG, it seems to imply abilities only activate when a battle begins or a character is brought in from outside the battle. It does not make it clear though, as far as I can tell.

I'm pretty sure its a new battle phase and a new battle but the character ability doesn't reactivate.

That is correct.

It is worth noting however that if it is an on-going ability (i.e. protection from something) then that ability would remain active in the side battle.
