Title: Seeker in Type 2
Post by: Red Dragon Thorn on July 16, 2009, 05:16:16 AM
I had heard that it was ruled that If Seeker of the Lost goes against an opponent with no souls, even if she revealed a soul it was still a battle challenge because of choose the soul.

However this quote from the rulebook seems to contradict that.

Quote
Phase
.
1)  Hero leaves hand or territory
2)  Hero enters Field of Battle
3)  Activate special ability on Hero
4)  Activate gained abilities
5)  Activate weapon-class abilities
6)  Activate banding abilities
7)  Activate choose the blocker abilities
8)  Activate special abilities triggered by the beginning of battle
9)  Declaration of intent (i.e., battle challenge or rescue attempt)

Basically that says that the Declaration of intent happens after Seekers reveal, which would mean that If she reveals a valid soul its a rescue correct?

I know that it was ruled for Type 2, one cannot rescue a soul put into play by Hur, but this quote definitely seems to contradict that ruling.

Yup, that was my thoughts exactly which is why I pulled out the quote (Which can be found in the rulebook fyi.)
I completely forgot about Hur when I saw it too.

It's probably purged from the boards now but that ruling came from Rob himself in May 2008, shortly before Iowa States.  Hur, Seeker, Angel of the Harvest, etc are not able to rescue a LS they "cough up" if you're using "rescuer's choice".  I'm not sure how the ruling jives with your REG quote though.  It seems like a contradiction. :dunno:

I remember that discussion. I believe it centered around this wording from the Rulebook.
Quote
Before a player begins a rescue attempt, he must announce which Lost Soul he is trying to rescue. That is the only Lost Soul he is eligible to rescue. If that particĀular Lost Soul is taken out of play prior to the end of the battle (by Burial, Son of God, or New Jerusalem), then the rescuer will not rescue a Lost Soul even if his forces win the battle.

So with the "Rescuer's Choice" variable the order would be:

1) Player declares the LS he will rescue (if none then it is a BC)
12)  Hero leaves hand or territory
23)  Hero enters Field of Battle
34)  Activate special ability on Hero
45)  Activate gained abilities
56)  Activate weapon-class abilities
67)  Activate banding abilities
7 8)  Activate choose the blocker abilities
9)  Declaration of intent (i.e., battle challenge or rescue attempt)

Hey,

I agree with CountFount.  RDT, I can't find where you got that quote from.

REG - Redemption Rule Book - Diagram of a turn. - Battle Phase.

Course its the REG so it's probably 3 years old and means nothing....

She does help it certain themes. She also helps in blending three brigades if you choose to use multiple brigades. A NT Female is always useful as well.

She has access to every LS in the game.  When you RA for one of those souls she might pull up another one for you to get next turn.  If you're really lucky she could even put their SoG on the bottom of their deck. :)
