Essentially, O.T. = B.C.E. N.T. = C.E. By that, Judas Maccabees would be O.T.

Actually it is an or, B.C.E. only came into use extensively in recent years, it was B.C. and A.D. for a very long time before that.

The only reason it's not perfect is because the guy (I forget his name off the top of my head) who set the timeline as we know it now, his math was a little off. But B.C. ("before christ") and A.D. ("Anno Domini" (in the year of our Lord)) should most definitely be used for the time periods.
Either way his point still stands, it can be an "or", it doesn't have to be an "and".
