Title: Rome and High Places

So, I remember a topic where it was stated that Herod's Treachery doesn't affect the character's ability to play enhancements with High Places, but what about Rome?

Can I use Rome in conjunction with High Places to play any N.T. "place" enhancement (except orange) on my emperors?

High Places
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: During your preparation and discard phases, you may play evil Enhancements that contain the word "place" in the special ability. If you capture a Hero in a territory, discard this card. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Numbers 33:52 • Availability: Thesaurus ex Preteritus booster packs ()

Rome
Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Your emperors have first strike and may use N.T. Enhancements of any evil brigade except orange. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Romans 1:15 • Availability: Faith of Fathers (Set 10)

Rome doesn't restrict when your emperors can use the Enhancement.  An emperor + Rome + High Places allows you to play any N.T., non-orange EE with the word "place" in the SA during your prep or discard phase.

I couldn't tell if that's what he's saying or not.  I see no reason it doesn't work too.

Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: Territory • Special Ability: Place on a Herod. That Herod may use evil Enhancements regardless of brigade. You may discard this card to force X Heroes to withdraw from battle.

He was asking why a Herod with Herod's Treachery placed on him cannot use High Places for place enhancements of any brigade, but why an Emperor can if Rome is in play.

The reason is that Herod's Treachery only activates in battle, so the Herod cannot use it's SA with High Places. Rome being a fortress, however, confers the play any brigade special ability both in and out of battle.

Herod's Terachery doesn't only activate in battle though (See recent discussions on discarding it outside of battle) -Additionally, the 'Play other' ability is ongoing (See Lydia + Reach) Because all place enhancements are active outside of battle, similar to artifacts and fortress', the Herod can play any brigade off of High Places.

Hmm, maybe I missed the end of the argument I saw. I could have sworn it was ruled that Herod's Treachery didn't work with High Places, but I'm glad it does. Gives you two options ^_^
