Title: Resolving Ruling Questions
Post by: adotson85 on May 06, 2010, 04:27:15 PM
Minister Polarius and I were talking last night and I had an idea. Since many major ruling questions often take a long time to be answered by an official, would it be possible to set up a system where a specific group of players can vote on a ruling until it is made official? I do not like the idea that you can go to one tournament and have a ruling go in your favor then attend another tournament and it is ruled a different way. I think it would be a great idea to establish a committee of people who can vote on the rulings until someone like Bryon, Schaef or Rob makes a ruling. However, the committee members should be players with known credibility and who are active on the boards.

Since the problem is having different rulings at different tournaments, such a committee should be made up primarily (not exclusively) of hosts. The top players of the game need to start doing more hosting.  ;)

Why? I have you to do it for me ;)

So very true!  The top players ARE top players generally because they have someone hosting for them.   ;)

I think this is a good idea.  And you are not the first person to bring it up.  In fact, I am currently working on something behind the scenes along these lines.

I would respectfully ask that people not continue discussing this on this thread however.  It is an unfortunate reality that if this discussion is had publicly on this forum, that it will degenerate into arguments over who is worthy to be on such a ruling committee.  And unfortunately, such disagreement will actually probably lower the possibility of something like this happening.

So please send any thoughts that you have on this matter to me by PM, and let's keep the chances of this great idea alive.

I find it more frustrating that things like this are done in secret. Why would you not want our input?

I DO want your input, that's why I said:

But that is only my personal request.  You are welcome of course to continue posting on this or other threads.  But if things devolve into arguments that leave a bad taste in the mouth of the people who actually have the power to make this a reality (not me by the way), then it won't be my fault that a great idea gets destroyed.

I can understand it though, Trolls are on the boards. You don't want a Troll on a very needed topic. They might eat it.

I nominate GotCranberriesQuestionmark. He's the most qualified non-official board member (other than maybe Sir Nobody).

Dude, he is so much less qualified that NotATroll. I mean seriously, his name is NotATroll. He definitely wouldn't ever give us any problems.
