If I have a legal deck can I have an extra copy of a unique character that's in my deck in the reserve?

Say for instance I have Gabriel in my main deck can I have another Gabriel in the reserve?

No. The deck must be legal, and the deck + Reserve must be legal excluding the LS requirement.

However, you can have extra copies of a card, as long as those extra copies are allowed in the deck (e.g. Locust from the Pit, allows 5).

In my deck (yesterday), I had 3 locust in my main deck, and 2 in reserve.

The total of 5 was not exceeded, so it was legal.
