Title: Re-entering battle
Post by: Arch Angel on July 19, 2011, 09:26:55 PM
So, I feel like I know the answer to this, but I can't seem to locate the definitive proof for it.

Scenario: I make an RA (heroes don't matter). Opponent blocks with Simon the Magician. I play Grapes of Wrath. Opponent discards Wolves in Sheep's Clothing to heal Simon. We're tied for Redeemed Souls, so I make another RA.

The question: Can my opponent block with Simon the Magician again?

Reason for asking: At some point I remember reading or being told that any given character can only enter battle once per turn. I can't remember if this is outdated, or was really only referencing not re-entering the same battle.

Thanks!

A given unique character can only enter battle once per turn.  Generic characters can only re-enter battle if they've hit the deck, otherwise, they follow the same rule as uniques.

Unique characters may only enter battle once per turn. Generic characters that have remained in play can only enter battle once per turn. Generic characters that have hit hand, discard pile, or deck may re-enter.

From Gabe's rule changes thread (which I can't quote for some reason):
Change to Banding generic Characters
The restriction upon entering battle multiple times per turn is only limited to unique characters. Generic characters can enter battle more than once per turn.

IS there anything in the rulebook/REG that lays out the rule for unique characters as well as generic?  I cannot seem to find it in the REG or rulebook.

The REG is completely silent on the definition (and implications) of Unique.

Well that's just peachy, so all we have to go on is Gabe's post?

It's more than we have for some rulings.

I agree with Gabe's ruling and post fwiw. If it's not in the REG we will work on getting it in there.

I wasn't trying to be difficult, I was just trying to find the wording of the rule that disallows unique characters back into battle.  I was trying to see if it was scoped so that they may not enter the same battle twice a turn, or if they may not enter battle at all twice in a turn.

I don't think they can enter any battle.

Ex.

Wandering Spirit gets thrown on the bottom with Fallen Angel and Kot by aCiB. You pop all three out with gates and you Dscard gates to add a demon to battle. WS and FA are allowed to re-enter battle but KoT can't.
