Title: Quick-Reference Cheat Sheet - v1.4 (7/15/11) available
Post by: browarod on June 28, 2011, 10:51:24 PM
I'm not trying to make a new REG here, so this should be only the most important stuff for people (especially hosts/judges) to reference (Quick-Reference, and all, lol). I may or may not end up making a separate document with individual cards and their rulings/changes

Please let me know anything that's not there that you think I should add, as well as anything that's either not explained enough or explained weirdly and any suggestions for improvement.

v1.4 7/2/11:
PDF Format (https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/srbowen/Redemption/Cheat%20Sheet/Quick-Reference%20Cheat%20Sheet.pdf)
DOCX Format (https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/srbowen/Redemption/Cheat%20Sheet/Quick-Reference%20Cheat%20Sheet%20v1_4%3B071511.docx)

Version 1.4 Updates:
-Interrupt section modified to clarify the scope of "interrupt the battle" (that it does not interrupt enhancements outside battle).
-"Place" cards section added to explain what exactly gains CBN status after they're around for a phase.

**This does NOT yet have Elder approval, so it should NOT be considered an official document, though pretty much everything in it is either from the REG or Elder posts here.**

Things to be added:
-Section on game rule changes
-Paragraph on instead abilities (v1.3)
-->Instead vs. Heal (v1.3)

"Cannot block" and "cannot be block by" are both other outdated forms of ignore as well.

I'll edit with more if I notice things. Thanks for doing this! It'll definitely help out newer players.

I thought it was still possible to ignore oneself...

I've finished the first draft of the Cheat Sheet I've been working on. It's probably missing some stuff, and a few of the sections could probably use some fleshing out (like restrict and the battle outcome section). I'm not trying to make a new REG here, so this should be only the most important stuff for people (especially hosts/judges) to reference (Quick-Reference, and all, lol). I may or may not end up making a separate document with individual cards and their rulings/changes

Please let me know anything that's not there that I should add, as well as anything that's either not explained enough or explained weirdly and any suggestions for improvement. I included actual card examples for many of the abilities.

The file, in 2 formats, for your perusing pleasure:
PDF Format (https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/srbowen/Redemption/Cheat%20Sheet/Quick-Reference%20Cheat%20Sheet.pdf)
DOCX Format (https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/srbowen/Redemption/Cheat%20Sheet/Quick-Reference%20Cheat%20Sheet.docx)

**This does NOT yet have Elder approval, so it should NOT be considered an official document, though pretty much everything in it is either from the REG or Elder posts here.**

Things to be added:
-Section on game rule changes
-->Hand limit
-->Demons cannot be redeemed

Thank you for taking the time to do this. Is there a place you can post that so it's more front and center?

Thanks, I'll add those in the next edit.

I honestly don't know. Last I heard I thought they said you couldn't, but I don't know. That's one of the reasons I'm posting the drafts as I go: so they can be checked for accuracy. lol

Let me get a working copy done that the Elders look at and approve and then we can get it out for people to see and use. ^_^

I've read it, and the only section I would fix is the ignore section.  All it needs is:

1) the note Arch Angel posted about "cannot be blocked by", and
2) "unless they have at least one other orange-brigade evil character in play" should read "unless another orange brigade evil character is in play."

You might also consider these:
1) group together the cards that target special abilities (Negate, Interrupt, and Prevent).  Then, you could have a "cannot be negated" section that says that none of the above 3 abilities can target those special abilities.
2) new players around here often misunderstand First Strike.  You could add that ability (though it isn't absolutely neccessary).  If you do add it, then you could add "First Strike" vs "First Strike" to your very handy vs. section at the bottom of the document.

Very well done.  Thanks you for your positive, helpful contribution to the Redemption community!  :)

Version 1.2 uploaded with suggested changes. See first post for updated links and version changes.

Unless something big is missing or wrong, this will probably be the version that goes to the Elders for approval, so last minute comments/suggestions/whatever would be most appreciated.

Thanks for all the help so far. ^_^

EDIT: I'm debating whether instead abilities should be included.

Yes please, that would help a lot of my new players.

Alrighty, I'll add that in v1.3 then. What specifically about insteads do they get confused about? If I can address specific questions/issues it will only improve the document.

The main bit of confusion I've seen is that the original ability is not carried out.

Right.  Specifically, if you are trying to pay the cost of a card like I Am Holy, and the cost gets insteaded (such as by Chamber of Angels), then you do not gain the benefit.

The main issue I've seen is Martyr on a hero in battle.  Thanks to the prevalence of healing abilities, several players (top-ranked ones too) think that HT will return the hero to territory.

Okay, cool. I'll make sure to address those issues in the instead section. I should have that version updated later today.

If a Hero is martyred, doesnt Herods Temple keep it in battle?

Yes.  I think that was his point.  Many people think that the hero is returned to territory because they misunderstand the "instead" as a "heal."  He sugested that the true ruling be clarified.

I just read v 1.2 and it looks good.

Thanks again for the high-quality help!

Yeah, I can totally have a heal vs. instead clarification in the instead section. I'll work on v1.3 at work tomorrow and have it out by afternoon at the latest. ^_^

v1.3 finally released, sorry for the delay. Included with the latest update is a rather long section on instead.

Please let me know if this new section is adequately descriptive and clear as insteads are a bit tricky.

^_^

Can we have this Updated to include the rules for placed cards?  Many people still assume that a placed card is CBN totally when only the placement of the card is CBN.  Might be handy for us judges who have to deal with this question and the frustration that usually follows over and over again.   Also I wanted to bump this to see if it is something that is officially allowed to be used yet.

I haven't heard back from the Elders yet about it being official, so no update on that. However, everything in it is either from the REG or from Elder posts on the board, so if you were to use this for rulings it would be at least as official as looking it up in the REG or in past threads. :2cents:

I can and would be glad to add a section on placed cards. I can't guarantee it'll be out in time for tournaments this weekend as I'm at work right now and will be getting ready tonight for a tourney tomorrow, but I will do my best.

I will also update the Interrupt section so it's more clear about the scope (as discussed in the Hating the Light thread recently).
