Title: Question for updated Weapon rules
Post by: megamanlan on June 12, 2018, 11:44:03 AM
So after reading the new rules on Weapons I just wanted to make sure I can still do this...

After battle can weapons still be reequipped to any WC Hero that can hold it or does it have to say with the WC Hero/EC that came into battle with?

Weapons cannot be transferred to a different character.

You can still choose whether or not to keep the weapon equipped or let it go to discard after battle.

Are you sure on dumping the weapon?

To exclude transferring, I'm pretty sure that means you need to keep a weapon before you can choose to dump a weapon, so you can't even change weapons on a character during a single battle (unless the equipped weapon is discarded by an ability).

I hope you can discard the weapon if you choose to because it seems counter intuitive to go back on that ruling now

IIRC when we discussed this we agreed that you can still choose to discard a weapon after battle. We also found no indication that it has ever been legal to transfer weapons from one character to another (although some people have done that).

As I mentioned during the discussion, I'm fairly certain it was ruled that weapons could transfer at some point very long ago (possibly when Kings first released in 2003) but it was never codified and was never relevant enough to matter.  ;) One of these days I'll remember to ask Tim to see if he remembers it the same way I do.  :P

Did you check the G/H rulebook to see if it was codified there? I remember people doing that.

Yeah you can discard the weapon if you wish, it's implied in the REG 5.0's weapon class section. "During battle resolution, when Enhancements are normally discarded, a warrior-class character’s controller may decide to keep one weapon-class Enhancement on the warrior-class character."

Honestly I’m probably one of the few that takes advantage of Weapon Transfering occasionally which is why I asked.

The 10th Anniversary Rulebook says
Quote
Weapons may not be exchanged between characters and may only be moved to another character in battle if the holder of the weapon is defeated and another warrior-class character is in battle and able to hold the weapon.

Obviously that's not longer accurate with the establishment of the "equip" rules, but it seems to illustrate that at least as far back as G/H it wasn't legal to transfer weapons between characters.
