Title: Protection from Instead
Post by: Bobbert on January 11, 2018, 03:09:02 PM
If I block a rescue with Emperor Domitian or Entrapping Pharisees, and my opponent has a Crowds Lost Soul in play, are they protected from the instead (and therefore can't stop the banish/capture)?

Yes

Edit: technically no, they aren't protected from the instead, they are protected from the ability targeting their hand. But it accomplishes the same thing.

Correct--the same is true for cards like Sinning Hand, Lions or Spirit of Fear.

However, while Sinning Hand is CBI and TEP is CBN, the others are all negatable.

Good to know.

On a completely unrelated note, are there any cards that protect deck but not hand?

Nazareth (protect all decks from search) and The Foretelling angel (protect your deck from discard) are the only ones i believe.

There’s also Jerusalem Tower. This, Foretelling Angel and Nazareth, however, aren’t a full coverage protection ability. They have coverage-specific protection.

Sinning Hand is totally negatable...  As long as you discard half your hand.  Then, when you negate it, you get your discarded cards back   :D
