Title: Protection from Cards vs. Game Rule
Post by: Red Warrior on August 20, 2014, 02:54:56 PM
Protection - Special Conditions
>Protection from cards only protects from being targeted by the special abilities of those cards, not from game rules influenced by those cards.
>Protection from effects protects from game rules that result in those effects and cards with special abilities that result in those effects.

So would this scenario be played out correctly?

Player A has drawn 5 cards this turn
Player A rescues with Gideon
Player B blocks with Foreign Wives
Player A plays Plague of Flies
Player B discards Foreign Wives due to game rule

Foreign Wives
6/6 Multicolor Evil Character
Search discard pile for Household Idols. If opponent has drawn 5 or more cards this turn, protect Foreign Wives from cards used by opponent. Cannot be negated.

Plague of Flies
Gold Hero Enhancement
All Evil Characters in play decrease 6/6 for remainder of turn. If result is 0/0 or less discard character(s).

Plague of Flies is an opponent's card, so FW is protected from the initial decrease. The "Discard by numbers" rule wouldn't even come into play.

Correct, FW cannot be targeted for decrease by Plague of Flies.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Can you feel the sense of desperation to get rid of Foreign Wives? lol

I think that's why they made Peter's Sermon. :P

On another note while I've got these special abilities posted: Would Foreign Wives be discarded after battle since Plague of Flies lasts "until end of turn"? (i.e. does the PoF continuously target ECs for decrease?).

Then there's the whole "not drawing 5 cards" thing... lame... there must be a better way ;)

In all honesty though, Foreign Wives has been a great counter card and I'm really glad they released her.

Nope...sorry.

That card is so gratifying.
