Title: Protect Abilities Outside Battle

Do protect abilities on characters protect outside of battle?

Example: Does Assyrian Survivor's "protected from discard" ability work while in a player's territory?

No - character abilities only activate when they enter battle.

aren't protect abilities on characters ongoing and work outside the battle after being activated once in battle? (EX. Simeon is protected from discard.)

No. The only character abilities that are still active after battle are the ones that say something like "While this character remains in play.." or "For the rest of the game..."

Keep in mind that even those abilities have to first activate in battle.
