Title: Played before battle...
Post by: Arch Angel on July 15, 2009, 03:24:56 AM
Just wondering, can enhancements played through cards like High Places and Altar of Burnt Offering be played on a character in a fortress like Kingdoms of the World?

Altar of Burnt Offering
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: You may play up to two offering Enhancements during your preparation phase. They activate immediately, and then are discarded. •

Kingdoms of the World
Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Evil Characters here are protected from effect, and may be removed during holder’s preparation phase only. While an Evil Character is here, protect holder from being forced to block with another player’s character.

High Places
"During your Prep. & DC phases, you may Evil Enh. that contain the word "place" in the SA. DC this card if you capture a Hero in a territory."

As long as the enhancement doesn't directly affect the character it's played on, I don't see why not.

Even if it would directly affect the character, it should still be able to be played, it just wouldn't carry out it's effect on that character.

But then that would be pointless because it would not have any effect on the characters in KotW and since the Burnt Offering says discard immediatly, it wouldn't have a chance to have a delay effect even after they come out.

Major bump, was wondering if this was the correct ruling?

You may use AoBO and HP to play enhancements on characters in KotW, Goshen, Judge's Seat, etc.  However, the played enhancement's SA can only target cards the same way as if it was played in battle, i.e. if a card is protected from being targeted, then it's protected whether the enhancement is played in battle or prep phase.

There is an issue with KotW in the REG, though.  The "play as" for the old version contradicts the Priests' version:

Quote from: REG
Kingdoms of the World
Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Following draw phase place, remove or exchange up to three Evil Characters in this site to protect them from harm or effect when they are not in the Field of Battle. • Play As: Place in your territory. This fortress may hold up to 3 of your Evil Characters. Cards in this fortress are protected from harm or effect. Cards can only be added or removed from this fortress during your Preparation Phase. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Luke 4:6 • Availability: Warriors booster packs (Uncommon) and D Deck (UL)

Type: Fortress • Brigade: Multicolor • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Evil Characters here are protected from effect, and may be removed during holder’s preparation phase only. While an Evil Character is here, protect holder from being forced to block with another player’s character. • Identifiers: Holds up to three Evil Characters • Verse: Luke 4:6 • Availability: Priests booster packs (Uncommon)

Placed or weapon-class enhancements on characters in KotW are protected for the old version but not the Priests' version.
