Title: Overrun/OverWhelmed by Philistines
Post by: TheIrishman on April 15, 2021, 05:19:24 PM
Are Overwhelmed by Philistines and Overrun by Philistines considered the same card for deck building purposes?  They are obviously very similar, but if I'm reading the REG correctly, they do appear to be different cards.
Quote from: REG->Type I Deck building Rules->Other Rules
• Cards with special abilities that have the same name and same card art are limited to a maximum of 1 each per 50 cards in a deck.
• Cards (except generic characters and Lost Souls) with special abilities that have the same name and same card icon are limited to a maximum of 1 each per 50 cards in a deck.
They have different names; "overwhelmed" and "overrun" certainly have similar meanings, but they are not the same word nor different forms/tenses of the same word.  They have different special abilities; they share a discard ability, but Overrun by Philistines has an additional discard ability, and they also have different modifiers.

They are different cards, just like Jacob Buries the Idols/Foreign gods. Both of those differences exist because the maximum title length is shorter on the new card format (or it just wasn't as strictly enforced on the old format).

That's interesting about the maximum title length.  So since they're different cards, I can run both Overrun by Philistines and Overwhelmed by Philistines in the same deck, right?

Yes. We discussed that before printing it with such a similar (but not identical) name.
