How do you tell when something is an ongoing ability, and when it is just an instant ability?
For example:
Jaddua, Son of Jonathon S/A: If Zerubbabel's Temple is in play, Negate all special abilities on Curses. Protect all Artifacts in play, hand, and artifact piles from discard.
If I bring him in battle, does he negate curses and protect arts for the rest of the game? or only during the battle phase?

All ongoing special ablities last for the battle phase only, unless otherwise stated on the card (Esther, Judas)

Things like "capture" and "discard" and "band" are instant abilities. And complete immediately.
Things like "immune" and "ignore" are ongoing. The last until the end of the current phase (unless something says otherwise).
See the side menu of the REG (http://www.redemptionreg.com/REG/) for a fairly complete list.
