Title: New Ruling - definition of Judge expanded to include Moses
Post by: Bryon on March 12, 2010, 09:23:03 AM
Judges ruled over Israel after the Exodus from Egypt but before the era of the kings. Their history is recorded in the books of Exodus, Joshua, Judges and I Samuel. The following Redemption® cards are considered Judges:

•      (Good): Abdon, Deborah, Ehud, Eli the Priest, Elon, Gideon, Ibzan, Jair, Jephthah, Joshua, Moses, Othniel, Samson, Samuel, Shamgar, and Tola

•      (Evil converted to Good): Abijah, son of Samuel and Joel, son of Samuel

Rob's thoughts: Scripture tells us that Moses judged Israel and was overworked with it leading to his father in law helping him delegate some of his authority to other elders.  Of course, it's easy to cite Judges from the book of Judges.  However, if Scripture clearly tells us that a person judged Israel before the time of Kings appearing on the scene, we should include those people too (Moses and Joshua).

This really doesn't make much of a difference in Redemption play, but it still fits well with the status of existing cards, so I like it. (Also, Judges are way underrated right now, so hopefully this will help.)

Except we now have another FBTN character who can use a CBN "interrupt and discard an evil enhancement" card. I'd say that's pretty significant. And as a Judges player, I'd also say it's awesome.

Yeah, I know, but that's the only thing, right? Well, obviously you can put Moses in Judges Seat, but almost any other judge is a better choice for that.

I fully support this decision.  Thank you, Rob & playtesters.

I thought he already was musici-fied (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=16370.0). That thread seemed about as official as it gets, although Rob never confirmed whether he thought Miriam, Moses, Deborah, Barak, David, and Solomon should be musicians, or just Miriam. Can we solve this issue now?

I had logic for the angel identifier, female would have been a bit trickier.

These are the Musicians listed in the REG: Asaph, Chenaniah, David, Ethan, Heman, and Jeiel

Well, Rob clearly stated in that thread that he thought Miriam was a musician, so obviously that list is out-of-date.

Was it the irradiated, glowing complexion version or transfigured version?   ;)

He's not particularly good there because of his high numbers, but since the card says "holds one good gold Judge", and he is good, gold, and a judge....I would imagine he can be placed there. ;)

I realize this is a necropost, but... why is Moses still not listed as a Judge in the REG?

Also, what is the final standing on all of Moses' identifiers? From what I've seen he should be considered...

Unique, OT, Male, Prophet, Tabernacle Priest, Royalty (Prince), Egyptian, Judge, Fought Earthly Battle

Did I miss any?

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
But, with all due respect, I was going to play it that way anyway, because it was blindingly obvious to me from scripture. Now, if I could only find someone to play, that would matter...

Tabernacle Priest

As far as I know, he has not been officially classified as a Priest.
