Title: Mark of the Beast
Post by: Watchman on August 06, 2017, 08:54:45 PM
This portion of the ability is my question.

"If played during battle and you control a Revelation beast, you may discard this card to discard a Hero."

Can I activate it ("played during battle") while it's an artifact once a hero enters battle to discard a hero? Based upon the wording it appears it can work this way. This is how I played it in a recent game.

No, it has already been "played" when you activate it as an artifact. That portion of the ability only works if it is used as an enhancement in battle.

I think it would work if activated mid battle (Meal in Emmaus, for one), based on the definition of "during battle" and the assumption that activating it is playing it.  It should have been "played IN battle" to require it to be played as an enhancement.

But I agree with Guardian that it definitely doesn't work if activated before battle.

I originally thought that it could only be played in battle as an enh but when I read it again it appeared that that portion could be triggered once a hero begins a battle as the definition of play includes activating a card's ability. This, combined with the wording of "played during battle," made me believe it could be a delayed trigger. I also thought the same as what Aggie said in that if it was meant to be played as an enh only the wording should have been "played IN battle," not "during." That "during" word is obviously what made me think that it could be triggered later.

Anyways, thanks gents.
