Title: Lost Souls, when does the ability take effect.
Post by: SiLeNcEd_MaTrIx on July 26, 2018, 03:01:28 PM
Do lost soul abilities take effect after you have fully drawn for the turn (or ability)?  Or do they take effect immediately?

Lawless Lost Soul states - If you draw this card, you may reveal the top 6 cards of a deck: Put Lost Souls in play, and the deck's owner may add a revealed evil card to hand.  Underdeck the rest.

When this card is drawn is it's ability immediately used or do you finish drawing the rest of your cards for the turn (or ability) first?

•   Beginning the game: The player who draws the most lost souls in the opening draw of 8 determines which player’s lost soul abilities activate first. Lost soul abilities then complete in a clockwise direction (in the case of a tie, a coin flip or dice roll should be used).
•   Determining who goes first: The player with the most lost souls in his Land of Bondage after all abilities from lost souls have completed decides who will go first. In the case of a tie, a flip of a coin or a dice roll will determine who will choose the player to go first. Play then proceeds in a clockwise direction.

Lost Soul abilities activate after the replacement card for that Lost Soul is drawn, or after the draw ability is completed.

Examples:

I draw 8 cards to begin the game including the Lawless LS. I put Lawless in my LoB, draw a card to replace it, then activate the ability on Lawless.

I use Angel under the Oak to draw 2. One of those is the Prosperity LS. I draw a card to replace Prosperity then use Prosperity's ability to discard a card to draw 2 more cards. Once Prosperity is complete, I complete the ability on AutO and exchange with a Judge (if I choose to do so).

Are you sure on that? I was under the impression that the entire card had to complete - i.e. Auto exchanges for a judge - before the souls went off. Feels odd that souls would be able to insert themselves into the middle of other cards' abilities like that.

They aren't inserting, they are part of completing AutO's ability.

So if I draw Lawless in my opening hand on the 2nd card, I replace it (have 2 cards in hand) than I use it's ability first and after it finishes I draw my next 6?  And if it's different for the opening due to Jeremy's quote, when I draw 3 to start my turn and draw Lawless first, I draw 1 replacement card, do Lawlesses ability, than finish drawing 2 more?

No--you draw all 8 cards including replacement cards for Lost Souls, then you activate Lost Soul abilities in the order you choose.

If you draw Lawless on the second card you just keep drawing until you reach 8. Once you have reached 8 you determine who has most lost souls and they get to activate their lost souls ability first if that is you and you choose to activate Lawless on your opponent and it gives him an extra lost soul and now you're tied with lost souls you'll have to roll a dice to see who decides to go first.

You always finish the draw and then activate a lost soul.

What about on your turn when you draw 3 and draw it card 1 or 2?  Do you finish drawing your 3 than do it?

Yes.

And the only time they work in between is when you use an ability to draw like AuTO? (Sorry for asking so many questions).

Yes but you still finish drawing even if it was the first one you draw off of AUtO.
