Would his ability still work if he is converted since it only says if block is successful not when blocking?

If block is successful, discard the top card from any draw pile. • Play As: Negate Jerusalem Tower this turn. I would say yes. I know there's a hero that says "if rescue fails" which is just different wording for "if block is successful" so I think it would convert with him.

Yes. Negate and discarding from deck are both "Hero-acceptable" abilities.

ok so if king shishak were converted and he was blocked and then withdrew himself from battle that would be a successful block right? or what if he set himself aside?

As long as the hero does not win the battle, the block is successful.

So the "hero with Warrior's Spear continuous deck discard combo" just became one card easier.  ;)
