question is: I ML is triggered can I search 1 card from deck and 1 card from DC pile? Or have they both to be from the same pile?

It’s either the deck or discard pile, not both. That’s why it says “search deck or discard pile...” If it was either/or it would read “search deck and/or discard pile...”
