Title: Interrupting Character abilities, and also Great Faith question
Post by: stefferweffer on March 23, 2009, 11:09:41 AM
I think we have been playing something.  We have been playing that character abilities (good and evil) occur instantly and can't be stopped (except by FBTN of course).

But I've been reading here that if I block with King Zimri (discard all cards in battle), that this ability can be interrupted by a "interrupt the battle" card? I guess because of removal?  If interrupted, does the hero have to immediately do something to either maintain initiative or defeat the evil character, because otherwise the ability of the other character will happen?

Does it also work for the 1/1 Priest who is discarded if blocked by a Babylonian, and every other case where someone is losing by removal?  Thanks for clarifying this for me.

On Great Faith, I just noticed the other day that it says "Exchange this card".  We had been playing it as "Replace this card".  Am I really supposed to shuffle "Great Faith" into my deck to be used again and again?  If so its even more awesome than I first thought.

Thanks.

It can be interrupted by an ITB or negate-all card, because it is causing the character to be removed from battle.

Thanks.  And on the "Great Faith" question?

Also when your OWN S.A. is removing you ( 1/1 vs babylonian) you do NOT have inititive to play a card.

Just like Acts of Solomon, Perpetual Priesthood, Numerous as the Stars, Philistine Armor Bearer, Sing With Stringed Instruments.... etc?

But the interrupt the battle thing does NOT work against Uzzah, who is only removing himself, right?

Right.  You won't get initiative against Uzzah because you're winning the battle (challenge).  ;)

What if Uzzah block an angel with Angel's Sword on?  Would the other player still get to play an enhancement even though Uzzah is no longer in battle?  It seems like that would make sense to me...but I'm not sure.

Hey,

Angel's Sword would allow the attacker to play an enhancement after Uzzah is discarded, but Uzzah is not in play at that point so there are few (if any) enhancements they could play at that time that would negate Uzzah's ability.

I believe it was said that since Uzzah's ability of protecting all LS is ongoing, that you could interrupt the protection, which would pull Uzzah back out and let you kill him first.  Of course, the hard part is getting a chance to play an interrupt...but that's why i asked this.  ;)

You are correct that in that circumstance you could interrupt Uzzah's protect ability for the duration of your interrupt enhancement, but that does not raise him from the dead.  Even if you get a chance to interrupt I don't know of any card currently in print that would stop Uzzah when he's in the discard pile.

But if you interrupt his protect, it interrupts the discard that allowed the protect as well, doesn't it?  At least, that's what was said on a different thread I remember reading.

"Interrupt the battle" only interrupts ongoing abilities (and the last enhancement played by an opponent).  Uzzah discarding himself and an artifact is an instant ability, not ongoing, therefore it would not be interrupted.  The protection is ongoing so it gets interrupted.

Hmmm...that does make sense.  I believe it was said to bring him back because the discarding of Uzzah was the trigger to start the Protect.  And so when the protect is interrupted...the trigger is too.  I don't really care either way just as long as it's clear.  I personally think, though, that him not coming back makes more sense anyway. :P
