Title: Interrupt the battle and dominants
Post by: Lex1122 on March 09, 2018, 12:25:13 PM
Hello,
If my opponent has a hero that negates play abilities in battle and I have an evil character in battle and it gives him regular initiative. He plays a withdraw an evil character granting me special initiative. I play and interrupt the battle draw three and play the next. So I draw three but my play the next is negated by his hero. Can I play Christian Martyr while the battle is still being interrupted to have his withdraw ability unable to be reactivated?

No, you can't play dominants while another ability is resolving. After you draw 3, the only actions you can take while the battle is interrupted are playing the next or declining to play the next if it's a may. Then the battle is no longer being interrupted.

I understand but after every special ability completes I get a chance to play a dominant right? So after my interrupt and draw 3 I get a chance to play a dominant?

When the "interrupt, draw, play next" completes, whatever was interrupted will kick back in before you get a chance to play a dominant. You can't play the dominant until all active abilities are completed, and in the interrupted card counts as long as it's still in play.

That being said, if you negate instead of interrupt, the ability won't kick back in, and you can play a dominant as soon as the negating card resolves.

Couple things--unless the Hero is "Cannot be negated" or "Cannot be interrupted" your interrupt the battle ability would interrupt "negate play abilities" allowing you to use play abilities.

However, since I believe the only two heroes that negate play abilities are Samuel (RoA) and Ezekiel (FooF), both of which are CBN, then I assume that is your specific scenario.

If play abilities are being prevented, then once you interrupt the battle and draw 3, the withdraw ability completes before any other cards can be played. However, once the withdraw happens, you could then play Christian Martyr to discard the Hero (and potentially stop the rescue if no other Heroes are in battle).
