Title: Initiative question
Post by: adotson85 on November 01, 2008, 05:34:11 PM
Hero Matthew (Levi) enters battle. (7/7)
Matthew is blocked by Antiochus IV Epiphanes. (11/10)
Matthew then plays Plague of Frogs (2/2), but the ability is "Regardless of immunity return an evil character in play to owner's draw pile.  Shuffle draw pile."
So since Antiochus does not have initiative by the numbers does that mean the battle is now over?

If the only blocker is being removed from battle, then he has initiative, but can only play an interrupt or negate to stop his removal.

Isaiah enters battle (7/8)
Gomer is used to block (3/3)
Gomer plays Great Image (0/0) ability "All opponents' Heroes in play that are not in the Field of Battle at end of this battle must be discarded."  So since Isaiah is not dying and does not have initiative by the numbers, Great Image cannot be interrupted, or negated.?.?

Not in battle, no. You would need to use the covenant that can negate an evil enhancement.

it's covenant of Noah

Gomer retains initiative in that scenario.

A fight by the numbers card could negate it if init ever passed again.

This is somewhat of a initiative question:
Say attacker uses Levi (10/10)
Blocker blocks with Saph (10/10), and then bands in Goliath (10/10)
Levi has initiative then uses Put to Flight (4/2) ability is "All banding of Evil Characters is negated for remander of battle."
So because the blocker has initiative can Goliath use Bringing Fear (3/3) ability is "If used by a Philistine, negate all special abilities on characters and good Enhancements.  Cannot be negated."
or is he already out of the battle, and therefore not use another card?

Another question is ignore cards.
Say attacker uses Cherubim (5/5)
Blocker blocks with Lahmi (10/10)
Cherubim has initiative then uses Spiritual Warfare (0/0) ability is "Hero ignores all human Evil Characters."
does this follow suit with the shuffle/remove/capture cards where the initiative goes back to Evil Character, or does it count as an instant Redeemed Soul?

If you negate something, you can't negate using a card that is no longer a legal play.  Example, if you negate Lydia's ability to play purple, she cannot interrupt with Reach.  So Goliath cannot play an interrupt in this scenario.

Since ignore is a winning scenario, Lahmi has initiative to play all the cards he wants.  However, unless he interrupts the ignore, he cannot play anything that targets Cherubim, and when he gets tired of flailing away, he returns to territory and Cherubim wins.  Now he can target other cards, so if you could find a way to get Failed Objective or similar played, you could protect your Lost Souls and Cherubim would get nothing for winning.

I thought you could play a card on gol because my evil character is being removed from battle and it IS causing me to get init.

You're not removing the character in this instance, you are negating the band.

But isn't that indirectly removing the character?

No, it's not even targeting the character.
