Title: How does taunt work?
Post by: Korunks on August 16, 2010, 01:34:57 PM
How does the ability on the new Goliath work?  What are his options for taunt and which happens first, the return all or the taunt?

Taunt works like a battle challenge for evil characters

You can only taunt when your opponent has no lost souls to rescue and it is your only battle for the turn.
Basically, the evil character is presented (ability activates and in Goliath's case it doesn't do much) and the opponent can either accept or decline the taunt. If The taunt is declined or the hero loses in battle, you gain the taunt bonus (which is to place one character beneath deck in goliath's identifier). for clarification, the taunt bonus would target a different character in their territory unless they withdrawl or leave battle for somereason

Coming from the creator of taunt, I hope this helps : )

Why would this be the case the wording of taunt makes me think it is a hero in battle or territory?

So if its a battle challenge do things like weapons activate when he taunts?

I'm not sure if they changed the way I meant it to be played, but it is essentially a battle challenge. If the battle resolves and say the hero lost by the numbers, he would be discarded. Taunt bonus would kick in and you then target another character. Weapons would also work in the battle

Taunt: If no opponent has a lost soul in his territory, you may make a "Taunt battle challenge" with an evil character that has a Taunt identifier.  A Taunt battle challenge is begun by placing the evil character into battle and declaring an opponent.  The opponent may accept the Taunt battle challenge by placing a Hero into battle to fight the evil character.  If the evil character wins the Taunt battle challenge, activate the special ability in the parentheses after the Taunt identifier.  (If you decline any kind of battle challenge, you lose the battle challenge).

Before you get too excited, look at Goliath's SA. They went pretty far out of their way to make sure the first taunt card isn't all that useful. But hopefully we'll get better ones in the future.

It was explicitly stated that they DIDN'T want horses drawing abuse with Taunt.

It probably is. So I wonder if Prince Jonathan will be able to band to a converted Goliath? (yes I know the band would be negated, but his ability would still be active for the rest of the battle).

Is there an official list of "giant-slayers"? I can think of only David off the top of my head, but I'm nowhere near an expert on every Biblical story and I'm sure there are others (otherwise they would have just said (except David)).

David, Abishai, and Eleazar jump to mind.

A Taunt Battle Challenge cannot be made if you want to make a Battle Challenge.

Is this available right now (pre-Natz Promo) or is it going to be released later this year (post-Natz tourney season)?

If your Regional tournament is June of next year (2011) then you can get a Goliath then.
