Title: How do I actually use Goshen?
Post by: TimMierz on January 17, 2012, 10:09:26 AM
My Benjamin in territory is decreased to non-positive toughness and placed in Goshen instead of being discarded. Right when the Hero returns to territory, why isn't it just instantly re-discarded?

Goshen
Written: Protect contents from all effects. If your Genesis or Exodus Hero has toughness */0 or less, you may place it here instead of discarding it. [Holds any number of Heroes of up to three brigades]
Play As: Protect contents from harm or effect. Place or return Heroes during your Preparation Phase. If your Genesis Hero or Exodus Hero has toughness */0 or less, you may place it here instead of discarding it. Goshen may hold any number of Heroes of up to three brigades.

Yes he is discarded.

I believe it would create a loop: Benjamin is /0 or less, goes to Goshen. During your next Prep you return him to territory, Ben is still /0 or less, goes back to Goshen. You would need to heal him while in Goshen for him to not loop like this.

I would think that just letting him go to discard would be better (since then you could Rachel, Chariot of Fire, or Asher him).

You could use any heal card, the cov that protects/undoes decrease, or heck, ANB.

Goshen protects contents from all effects.

Goshen protects contents from all effects.
And that just makes me double certain that letting him (or any Genesis hero, really) go to discard instead would be more beneficial.

Goshen can be useful in decreases that do not extend indefinitely, such as Hunger, or PwD (it might get deactivated sometime). But it's more useful for its original purpose (for instance if you plan to play WoS you can put your heroes in there) and I suppose it's nice for a +1 with Joseph in a lean Genesis deck.

Does a character get sent there is CM'D. (Sorry to steal the thread a little.)

No. It only saves characters from being discarded by a decrease ability.

So why did you say that WoS saved your heroes or were you implying that it was meant to be played like that just like split altar was supposed to do something useful.

If you plan to play WoS on your block, you may want to put your Heroes in Goshen on your turn. They are protected whilst they are there, so you don't lose your heroes.

He is saying that if you intend to play Wrath of Satan in a future block then you can first put most of your heros in Goshen to protect them and take them back out after Wrath is played.

Also, while you can't play a heal on a hero in Goshen, I don't think you need to.  If opponent used Gates of Samaria to decrease your hero and send them to Goshen and then on a later turn you draw your heal card, you remove your hero who is then discarded and play your heal card to bring him back same as if CM was played on him.  The instead on Goshen is a may.
