Title: Hormah vs Trumpet Blast
Post by: Daniel TS RED on March 28, 2008, 10:49:35 AM
If I use Trumpet Blast to discard my opps Hormah and Kill his human EC in battle in the process, can the LS that was in hormah still be placed under the dp even though Hormah is gone?  I guess the sa still works right?  If the LS can be placed under the dp, does that mean Hormah can be placed under as well and not discarded?

Hormah:
Type: Site • Brigade: Blue • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: If your human Evil Character is discarded, you may place this Site and its contents beneath owner’s deck. • Identifiers: Canaan • Verse: Judges 1:17 • Availability: Faith of Fathers (Set 4)

Since the Site is not in play when the ability is triggered, there is no "Site and its contents" to place.

I don't think Hormah works because the d/c the site part comes before the d/c the EC part in T-blast.

EDIT:  Schaef beat me to it.

nice, ok, thanks.

P.S. I guess you could discard one of your human ECs from hand during your discard phase to also place hormah and your ls's in it under your dp right?

Really?  Can this be done?  The power of Hormah just seems to keep growing if this is true as well.

Yeah Hormah is super tough, especially paired up with 2liner and site doubler.

correct
I would like to revisit this ruling, which never really came from an official source to begin with.

It seems to me that the default for special abilities is "in play".  Therefore to put Hormah on the bottom of the deck a human evil character (in play) must be discarded.  Therefore, discarding one from your hand (not in play) during the discard phase of your turn would not satisfy the requirement.

Thoughts?

You can discard from hand into Chamber of Angels, so I think this would still work.

Hormah
Type: Site • Brigade: Blue • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: If your human Evil Character is discarded, you may place this Site and its contents beneath owner’s deck.

The bolded portion of Hormah's ability doesn't target anything, it's a trigger.  It triggers when a human evil Character is discarded.  It doesn't matter where that discard comes from.  It could be from in play, from your hand or from your deck (thanks to one of those nasty Egyptians).  It's true that the default for targets is in play, but the only thing Hormah targets are it's contents, not a human EC.

Now that is settled....has anyone heard of Daniel TS Red?  It's not like him to be off the boards for a month and a half.  I was just noticing because I used to play him all the time on RTS.

I hope someone who knows him can get in touch with him and verify that he's okay.  The last time we didn't hear from a regular for a couple weeks, the news wasn't good.

Added on top of this is the fact that Daniel's health was pretty poor for a long time.  I am concerned.

I'm not sure if anyone on here knows Daniel face to face.  I think he only plays Redemption online.  I did a google search with his first/last name and hometown but it didn't turn up anything in the news.

Last I knew, he lived in West Virginia.  So the WV players would have the highest possibility of ever meeting him.  Ironically, I remember talking to Brian Reid about Daniel one time, Brian was trying to connect with Daniel before Brian moved to Indy.

I'm glad to hear that also. Daniel was instrumental in teaching me alot of the basic mechanics of Redemption when I was very new to the game. We played many RTS games.

Godspeed,
Mike

Of the many people I've helped teach T2 strategy, Daniel was the fastest learner. From what others have said, he played a lot of games with many people so that helps, but it was amazing to see how quickly he went from a "T2 beginner" to beating me in T2 a couple times.

Glad to hear he's doing fine.  :)
