Im confused about these languages...

Ok so, how exactly does the underlined part of this ability work?

Confused Languages
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Green • Ability: 2 / 1 • Class: None • Special Ability: All Evil Characters in play with banding abilities may not band for the rest of the game. Any already banded must return to their territory. • Play As: Prevent banding of all evil banding characters in play with banding abilities for remainder of game. Return all Evil Characters banded into battle to their territory. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Genesis 11:7-8 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Rare)

"Prevent banding of all evil banding characters in play with banding abilities for remainder of game."

Does this stop the targeted EC's from banding even if they were shuffled back into the deck afterwards? It says for remainder of game, so does the enhancement remember who they were and continue to effect them?

Yes, It's just like King Amazing, Holy Grail, and all other per game abilities.

Thats the way I'm leaning as well.

I guess it ultimately depends on if the enhancement just "reamains active" until the end of game and remembers who it targeted.

Actually, I think that "per game" abilities don't reset, but "remainder of game" abilities do. I remember there was a thread about Abel resetting if he was returned to deck/discard.

I'll try to find it...

EDIT: Indeed, this is what the REG says:

Quote
REG (Ongoing Abilities -> Miscellaneous -> Default Conditions):

•      A "per game" ability applies to all copies of the card and is not reset (e.g., return to pile).

•      A "remainder of the game" ability is a gained ongoing ability.  It targets cards in play, which gain that ability while they remain in play or set aside.  The “remainder of game” ability can be reset (e.g., return to pile).

So they would reset, since their gained ability to be prevented from banding fits the second definition.

If you have 2 (or more) Abels in a deck and one of there abilities is activated and then you play A New Beginning and draw an Abel, there is no way of knowing if it is the same Abel, unless it applies to all Abels.  So I think remainder of game abilities should reset

That would be too easy.

When I questioned how Goods Recovered worked, it was suggested that marking a copy of a card via piece of paper in the sleeve (or the like) might be necessary to make sure you know which copy you've drawn.

Sorta related... how does this one work?

Shadow of Death
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Silver • Ability: 3 / 3 • Class: None • Special Ability: Discard the first Evil Character that each opponent put in play this game. • Identifiers: OT, Based on Prophecy, Plague • Verse: Exodus 12:29 • Availability: Warriors booster packs (Uncommon)

Do you mark that EC, and then discard them even if they got shuffled?

Also,

Manna
Type: Hero Enh. • Brigade: Purple • Ability: 2 / 2 • Class: None • Special Ability: Holder's Heroes ignore Hunger and Without Food for remainder of game. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Exodus 16:14 • Availability: Patriarchs booster packs (Common)

Does shuffling reset the heroes targeted by this card as well? Or is it an ability that stays active and grants that ability to every hero when they come back out?

Note, please dont like, disregard this post because neither of these cards are very useful.

That has nothing to do with this discussion, and if you want to get technical, then even that card isnt truely played as it says. Abilities still work if they are CBN, so you cant truely "Fight by the Numbers" like he says.

Shadow of Death would default to play, I'm pretty sure, since it doesn't say otherwise. So if the first EC was shuffled, the card would be ineffective unless that EC came back to play. I am not certain on this point though. The "first EC put in play" would still be just that though, as it is a definition, not an ability, so if it came back to play, SoD would discard it. I have no idea how this would work for multiple copies of the same EC, but I might think that since other copies are in effect the same EC, it could apply to any copy that came back.

If I remember right, players can't be targeted, so I think Manna targets all heroes holder currently has in play. If any are shuffled, their "remainder of the game" ability would be reset, and they would come back susceptible to either Hunger or Without Food.

I think he was merely pointing out that if we played CotH according to what it said, it would negate Fortresses, Artifacts, Lost Souls, etc. Which is why things can't always mean what they say.

Before I say anything else, shouldn't Captain's "Play As" be an Eratta? It changes the way the card is played, doesn't it?

That point got brought up in the arrogance thread, and I pulled out at least four cards that clearly target players:

Displeased Phillistines
False Dreams

and several others all clearly target players.

interrupt + prevent = negate, so no.
