How is gibeonite trickery played? Each hero in battle gains0/4 the battle immediately ends. Ability can be interrupted or prevented

-
the heroes gain 0/4 then the battle immediately ends, moving the active player's turn into discard phase unless there is a card allowing otherwise such as goodness or you will remain

-
So the hero doesn't win the lost soul correct?

Neither the hero or the evil character dies they just returned to their territory?
-
it depends you have to account for the numbers involved after the +0/4 so if the numbers at that moment when the battle ends are mutual both die and the hero gets the soul

if it's a stalemate or the blocker wins over the rescue, the defender gets the block.

A card that ends the battle moves the turn into battle resolution. Numbers on each side of the battle are compared and then any abilities that trigger as a result of the battle resolution are completed. The turn then moves into the discard phase unless an ability such as You Will Remain is triggered as karius mentioned.
