Title: Gates and Thad
Post by: slugfencer on September 27, 2010, 09:36:08 PM
Based on the 'Protection vs immunity" thread, I have a question:
Is Thaddeus' protection ability that protects against everything including nuclear weaponry the same type of protection that Gates o Jerusalem offers--I mean, I remember seeing a thread in the past saying that Gates doesn't protect the evil Judeans from ignore. But since Thad has such a broad definition of protect which effectively negates evil characters (immunity) how come Gates can't protect their Judeans vs ignore?
I just need help making sense out of this. Thanks in advance for your answers. :)

Thaddeus (Di)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Purple • Ability: 8 / 8 • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect all cards in play, set-aside area, Artifact piles, hands, and decks from Evil Characters with toughness X or less. Cannot be interrupted. • Identifiers: NT Male Human, Disciple

Gates of Jerusalem (P)
Type: Fortress • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Protect evil Kings and Queens of Judah in your territory from opponents’ cards. If one blocks, its special ability cannot be negated and you may draw a card. • Identifiers: Play to territory. • Verse: II Chronicles 14:7 •

Because Ignore has a weird way of working that doesn't target the characters (the part that stops characters from entering battle doesn't target characters)

Yeah, ignore doesn't actually target the guys it keeps from entering battle.

Believe me, it still doesn't make much sense to me, but I've been told this enough times that I've just come to accept it for what it is.

Also, the way Thaddeus was worded, he protects characters from themselves.

exactly, that way deceit of Sapphira and deluge of rain don't work to kill the EC themselves.

It would not work. CBP means nothing can stop it before it's played, and CBI means nothing can stop it after it's played.

I know, I just threw them both in to compare the differences.
