A toss ability allows a player to discard an enhancement to decrease an opposing character in battle.
How to Play
A toss ability allows a player to play an enhancement in a different way then usual; instead of activating the numbers or special abilities of the enhancement, the enhancement is discarded to decrease an opposing character by X/X (where X is the strength of the discarded enhancement).
Default Conditions
Enhancements disarded to the toss ability must come from hand.
The strength of the discarded enhancement is determined by the face value of the card.
Targets for the decrease must be in battle and controlled by opponent.
This is from the Redemption Wiki via the Foreign Spearman thread that's been active for the past couple of days. Toss is an ability that causes enhancements to be discarded when played in order to decrease an opposing character by the strength of the enhancement (instead of activating the special ability on the enhancement).

Thanks, why don't they use those abilities more?

Right now, Toss is really in favor of offense, so long as someone doesn't go in with just a tiny character (then defense should win). The issue is that most of the good enhancements have better strength and most of the evil enhancements have better toughness. So, good is better at that fight right now.
I'd like to see it used more, but I don't know if it will get played very much right now.

In addition to Redoubter's comments, Toss was only introduced in last year's set. There was simply no room to print more cards with the ability. No idea if we'll see more Toss cards in this year's set.
