Babylonian Soldiers (FF2)
Type: Evil Char. • Brigade: Crimson • Ability: 1 / 1 • Class: Warrior • Special Ability: If blocking, you may remove a captured character from the game to negate and discard an Artifact or draw X (limit 3). Increase this character by X/X. • Identifiers: Generic OT Male Human, Soldier (Babylonia), Fought Earthly Battle, X = number of captured characters in your territory. • Verse: Daniel 3:20 • Availability: Faith of our Fathers Extended booster packs (None)
Can Babylonian Soldiers numbers increase or decrease during battle? And how would that affect initiative?
Ex: If Babylonians Soldiers is up against The Generous Widow and has 1 captured character in LoB and it's TGW's turn to play an enhancement. If Babylonian Soldiers remove a captured character from the game would it "steal" TGW's initiative or would TGW never have had initiative because Soldiers ability had to complete?

The increase happens when you enter battle.
-
its an instant increase.

As opposed to an ongoing increase...wow, I didn't realize it was so simple! :P

I'm a bit confused as to the question. bab soldiers remove the captured character first, before the increase. If you only had one captured character, you can remove it and not increase at all, or you can not remove it and increase then, making him 2/2 before initiative is determined.
Once the increase happens though, it is permanent, regardless of the value of X in the future.

Actually, he always increases himself. The only may clause has to to with the discard an artifact or drawing. You seperated the sentences with a comma unfortunately and so he's pretty bad if you have captured heroes that will increase him.

That was on purpose, actually. We didn't want a guy with such a powerful ability (essentially remove a Lost Soul from your territory to d3 or trash an Artifact) to also retain initiative really easily. That's one of the same reasons we made ASA 12/12 (in addition to making it more difficult for Thad to protect from him) because we didn't want him to be able to stick around too easily.
The only optional part is the removal, but if you remove your only captured character, you increase 0/0 (i.e. don't increase at all). That's what I was getting at.
