Does first strike effect initiative? Or does first strike just manifest during battle resolution?
-
First strike does effect initiative.
-
+1
I've always played it where first strike changed initiative, since the character is never loosing in a MD situation.

More than that, the character with first strike is winning the battle, so you cannot play an enhancement even if your opponent passes.
-
What if I have two characters in battle - One with FS, one without, (MD of course) Then what?
-
the one with first strike would always be winning in a MD situation, meaning it would never get initiative, unless the other player's /* is raised higher than the other persons */, or uses a special ability.
-
+1 with L. Diablo. Initiative is a property of a side in battle, and is not broken out to the individual characters.
I guess the moral of the story is to not get yourself into that situation.

Wah? ???
-
meaning...
Good guys as a whole or bad guys as a whole have initiative, not characters.
-
So what does a side battle have to do with anything?
-
he never said side battle.
-
Oh, I see. I was reading what he said wrong.
-
This is contrary to how I've always had it ruled the past four years. First Strike comes into play during battle resolution, and therefore does not affect initiative since that's determined pre-resolution.
-
I have always played that if you go in with say Ehud and choose a sadducee to block and it is the only one in battle, the sadducee has inititive until his defense is past Ehud's 7 attack.
-
that is how i've always played it.

REG Entry on First Strike (http://www.redemptionreg.com/REG/howtoplay19.htm)
Each time players check for initiative and they determine that a character with first strike is not being defeated, initiative is granted to the player without the first strike special ability.

Something interesting from that same REG entry:
Only the character with first strike ability benefits in the battle where it is played; it does not extend to other characters (e.g., Band).
-
That is not for initiative, though. That is just related to who returns to territory after battle, and who gets discarded.
-
So say you have somebody banded to ehud, you only get first strike up to 7 because it is Ehud's ability. If you had two people in who had first strike, then i believe it would be the combination of them both? I am not sure. This is a toughie. Can somebody answer this...

It's for that reason that I think it's during resolution. The one(s) with FS would survive the mutual and the others would not.
-
For heroes:
The battle is mutual destruction. All characters are discarded, except any hero with First Strike ability. The rescuer wins a Lost Soul.
For evil characters:
The battle is Mutual Destruction. All characters are discarded, except any evil character with First Strike ability. Since a blocker survives, he wins and no Lost Soul is rescued.
During the battle:
The battle is mutual destruction. However, since one character has First Strike, that character's side in the battle is actually winning (see above how in either case, FS characters win the battle), so initiative goes to the player whose characters do not have First Strike.

Hey,
First Strike does affect initiative.
