Can Samuel exchanged with The Angel Under the Oak play next with Hidden Treasures (with Holy of Holies active, of course)?
Samuel (RA2)
Type: Hero Char. • Brigade: Green/Yellow • Ability: 4 / 4 • Class: None • Special Ability: Negate play abilities. You may search deck for King Saul or David and put it in play to draw 2. May band to a male I Samuel Hero. Cannot be negated. • Identifiers: OT Male Human, Judge, Prophet • Verse: I Samuel 7:16-17
Hidden Treasures (FF)
Type: Artifact • Brigade: None • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Once per turn, if your lone green brigade prophet begins a battle, you may play an Enhancement or discard an evil Enhancement in an opponent's deck. • Play As: Once per turn, if your lone green brigade prophet begins a battle, you may play an Enhancement or search opponent's deck for an evil enhancement and discard it. • Identifiers: None • Verse: Obadiah 1:6

ahh my bad, thanks red wing.

I think the answer would be no even if Sam didn't negate play abilities, because I do not believe he began the battle.
-
Drrek is correct. Only the first hero entering battle can "begin" it.

I disagree. All special abilities must complete before you can check the trigger for HT.

I would like to here more on this...

You are correct with your second sentence. All abilities complete, who began the battle? Angel Under the Oak.

The bolded part is what's important here. Angel Under the Oak would be beginning the battle, not Sam, so Hidden Treasures doesn't activate.

The problem with this is, what if I go into battle with a green prophet with a banding ability and then band to someone, by your logic, my lone green brigade prophet began the battle, really I would say either anytime a green prophet is the first character is in battle hidden treasures will activate, or if you have to wait until all abilities complete and see what the battle looks like (such as an exchange with Angel Under the Oak) and if there is a lone green prophet in the battle you can use Hidden Treasures.

ChristianSoldier explains the reason why checking the trigger must wait until special abilities complete.
I do, however, seem to remember a somewhat recent discussion that may be related. I'll go do some searching.

LOL! I searched and only found one other similar thread (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/ruling-questions/hidden-treasures-27925/). At least I'm consistent. ;D

"Begins a battle" seems to just mean "is the only Hero attacking when opponent is given the option to block." That's the only way to make it consistent with triggers checking post-SA.
