Title: Evil Spirit Question
Post by: Praeceps on December 17, 2014, 03:53:29 PM
Evil Spirit - Convert any Human Hero except Mary to an Evil Character for remainder of battle.

If I were to use ES to convert Thomas to an evil character, at the end of the battle when he becomes a hero again does he regain his ability?

Yes, since the conversion only lasts until the end of the battle, Thomas regains his ability. However, I am uncertain if he would regain any gained abilities (such as if he had previously been set aside with Gathering of Angels and had a gained banding ability).

So Thomas' ongoing ability that activated at the beginning of battle ceases when he is converted?

From my understanding, converted Heroes lose their abilities when they are converted. Since an Evil Character cannot be on the Hero side of a rescue attempt, Thomas is returned to territory as an Evil Character until the end of the battle phase after which he reverts back to being a Hero with his ability. If this happened to a Territory Class Hero, the ability would not be in effect until the next phase.

Abilities are not negated when a character is converted, so SOME ongoing abilities (that didn't state 'while this hero...' since those would turn off) would remain in effect.

For TC Heroes, as soon as they are returned to being a hero, I would think they'd immediately be active again, though this of course would happen after battle and thus would not technically start until next phase, true.
