If I search discard pile for magnificat then play it in battle would Magnificat indirectly negate itself by negating Ethan's ability?

Based on the FBTN ruling, I am going to venture a guess and say the outcome of that combo would be Magnificat in your discard pile and character abilities negated. I'm not at all sure of this, though.

You can't undo the playing of an enhancement, so Magnificat would stay in battle. I base this off the same logic as ET playing a banding card to bring in a FBN character resulting in the enhancement sticking.

Ethan adds Magnificat to hand, not battle. I assume the TC meant that he plays Magnificat later that battle with normal initiative.

Doesn't matter. It was played.

Well if a FBTN enhancement is drawn and played off of a D2/play next enhancement (like Mask of Fear drawn/played with Egyptian Horses), it goes back to the draw pile because the draw can be negated, but the FBTN sticks.  So wouldn't the same apply to searches?  If the search is negated by the card that was searched for, it would go back, but it's ability sticks?

That was my thinking, yeah.

So, you can indirectly negate game rule playing of a card, but can't indirectly negate a special ability's playing of a card? Strange, but that is how I've played it, now that you mention it.
