Esau, the Hunter promo which reads:

You may search deck for an animal or edomite. If blocking, you may discard an animal to draw 2 and play an O.T. enhancement. Cannot be interrupted.

You can't search for an animal and then discard the animal that you search for from hand to draw two and play an O.T. enhancement can you?

The animal that you discard has to be in play right?

Correct, the discard ability defaults to play.
