Title: Enoch and Faith of Samuel
Post by: Watchman on July 04, 2017, 10:20:30 AM
Would FoS work with Enoch? I always played it so that it couldn't work since he negated hand abilities. However, when my son played this combo last night I thought that maybe it could work since FoS first interrupts the battle (thus interrupting Enoch's on-going prevent), then the band occurs. He doesn't prevent the interrupt portion but just the banding portion, and that since they're both Cloud cards I figured FoS was made with Enoch in mind and that it could work with him.

Enoch - ...While in battle, negate band abilities.

FoS - Interrupt the battle. Hero may band to any number of human Heroes. If all of those Heroes are ☁ Heroes or share the same book, you may draw 3.

Of course we made FoS with Enoch in mind...  ::)

You are correct that the ongoing prevent of band abilities is interrupted, the band can then activate. Once the band (and potential draw) are complete Enoch's prevent reactivates since it's ongoing. The interrupt portion has already completed and doesn't attempt to activate again so the band stays.

That's what I figured. Thanks Gabe. :)

So I am confused why the band would stay if Enoch would kick back in and negate it?

Because his negate ability doesn't reactivate as an instant interrupt but as the original on-going prevent. Thus the prevent ability cannot prevent something that already activated, which in this case is the band.

So this makes sense if you play FoS on Enoch already in battle, but you can't play FoS on a different Hero and band in Enoch with it, right?

That's correct because Enoch will end up interrupting the band and then prevent it (negates it).

This line of reasoning also works for the negate band abilities lost soul correct?

I would think that since the soul isn't in battle, it doesn't get interrupted. I may be wrong.

It works in theory, but as stated it's harder to just interrupt an LS.  It does mean that CBP band abilities work through that LS, though.

FoS wouldn't interrupt Forsaken LS (the one that negated opponents' band abilities) since Forsaken is in territory and not battle but a card like Karius said (Not Alone) could and have the same effect on Forsaken as FoS played on Enoch.

Quick question doesn't Enochs ongoing prevent stop you from ever being able to play FoS since FoS is not a cannot be prevented?

Kind of like the Moses scenario where you can't play a card on Moses unless it is a cannot be prevented or cannot be negated?

Enoch doesn't prevent all abilities, only band abilities. This allows the interrupt ability on FoS to turn Enoch's prevent off allowing the band to work.

So let me get this straight you can't interrupt Coliseum with a card that says cannot be negated because Coliseum already knows the words cannot be negated are on the card and tosses it before it gets a chance to interrupt Coliseum.

But Enochs ongoing prevent doesn't prevent the word band on FoS because it interrupts Enoch first.

They're way too many rules to learn and understand the difference between this and that.

Coliseum insteads the entire card. Enoch only negates one portion (band ability) of the card. The rest of the card (The interrupt being the important part) isn't affected by Enoch at all which is why it works.
