Title: Enhancement effects

do you HAVE to use the effect on enhancement cards? i.e. new beginning has 4/5 abilities, but if you use the effect, then abilities are worthless

Correct. For example:

Three Angels says: "Up to two silver brigade heroes may join the battle." So, you can band 1, 2, or 0 silver heroes into battle if u desire.

Authority of Christ says: "Discard all evil characters in play." It is not optional and all evil characters that can be discarded are discarded.

This point of ANB is to rescue 7 souls before your opponent gets a turn.

i under stand it's special ability, but I don't understand why they would make it have 4/5 abilities when you wouldn't get a change to use them!
