Title: Definition of a musician
Post by: Korunks on February 03, 2011, 12:28:45 PM
There is no official definition of musician in the REG, or any of its subsequent correction threads.  What is the definition of a Musician officially?

Define lead?

No thanks.  :)

If you propose someone is a musician other the characters listed on that thread then give some scripture to back it up.  If some of the elders believe you have a legitimate case we'll discuss it.  If we feel your grasping at straws we won't. ;)

Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.”  After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his[c] holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

   “Give thanks to the LORD,
   for his love endures forever.”

Does appointing someone to sing count as leading?  He appointed them and they sang.

No.

But then, I wouldn't have counted a lot of the people that fit the current definition.

I kinda think it should, I have "led" people in singing and a lot of that is appointing who to sing, when and where.  But if It is a resolute no from the elders I won't throw a fit.  I honestly could see it either way.  Can I get more discussion?

I would lean towards no.  A pastor of a church may appoint someone to be the song leader for worship services.  And if he does, then people would see the song leader as the musician, not the pastor who appointed him.

St. Patrick wrote St. Patrick's Breastplate. There isn't really biblical proof of that for obvious reasons, but it's there.
