Title: Converting a Hero with a weapon
Post by: The Guardian on July 08, 2009, 06:20:42 PM
If a Hero sitting in a territory with a weapon is converted from one brigade to another with Gold Shield, does the weapon convert as well and stick to the Hero?

Gold Shield~You may discard this card to convert a human Hero in play to a Hero in the brigade of your choice.

I believe it should convert with the hero.

I think I am okay with it either way, but I would like to figure out which way is consistent and go with it.

Quote from: Instant Abilities > Convert > Default Conditions
Weapon-class enhancements stay with a converted character; the special ability continues to function if it does not conflict with the nature of the converted character (see Weapon-class Enhancements in the rulebook [p. 35].

In order for the weapon-class enhancement to stay with the converted character it would have to convert also.  We all know that a purple Hero cannot hold a blue weapon, *<edit>therefore the weapon has to convert with the character.

That's true, Gabe, but a converted Naaman (red hero) can continue to hold his gray evil weapon, right?  I would rule the converted character may continue to hold the weapon regardless of brigade as long as he held it prior to the conversion.

I guess I wasn't very clear in what I meant.  The REG says that the weapon stays on a converted character, so I believe the weapon converts with the character.  I don't see why it would matter if the character goes from an EC to a Hero or from a Hero to a Hero.  The rules of conversion should still apply.

well the reasoning behind this is the same as:
setting weapon class heros aside with the own ability(pentecost) vs. opponents (nebby pride)
is equal to or not
conversion of own ability vs. conversion by opponent

if i convert my opponents character shouldnt the weapon be discarded?

You're not losing control, their attributes are just changing.

I don't know about "easy".  You have to get a gold hero, probably one that's warrior-class, Gold Shield, another hero you want to make a different brigade color, and the weapon that's the original brigade color of the second hero.  If you can get all that out and then pull off Gold Shield's ability, knock yourself out.

I'm not sure why you need a gold hero. Gold Shield is a gray WC enhancement. Anyway, it wouldn't take a lot of setup, since weapon class enhancements can be put on the characters anytime, and getting four cards isn't too hard.

Besides, the benefits of having a purple Ahimaaz with Helmet of Brass seem rather tempting...

It's possible to get 2kHorses on CotH with Ahimelech.  I don't know of any way to make him green though.

And here's why Gold Shield won't work for Captain, just in case anyone was wondering...

Human, schmuman.  On that note, if I convert a human to silver brigade, and then place Wings on him/her, wouldn't they become an angel?   ;D

You can do it, but it's usually easier to convert an EC that's holding a Horse-class enhancement. My brother had a deck that was based on putting 2kH on heroes with Ahimelech at one point, but it can be tricky to pull off.
