Hey all,
This came up in a game last night. Opponent uses CoW Confusion against me to remove SoG from the game. I know from previous posts that the ability of Confusion can be targeted by "Negate and Discard the last", but because Confusion is not altering the battle do I not get initiative after it removes the SoG if my opponent still has initiative by numbers?
E.g. I am making a rescue attempt with Salome (RoA) 7/6 my opponent blocks with Corrupt People (CoW) giving them initiative. They use Confusion to remove SoG from the game. This doesn't provide special initiative as it is not removing my character from battle nor is it affecting numbers. Therefore, in my understanding, I cannot interrupt or negate it as they still have initiative to play another enhancement. Only if my opponent doesn't have another enhancement to play can I try to negate Confusion; is this true?
Thanks
-Steve

If your opponent has no other enhancements to play then the battle would move to battle resolution since you are winning the battle outright--you would not have an opportunity to play a negate.
-
While you wouldn't get initiative right then, I think you could still use something like Gam's Speech to negate it. If later in the battle you get initiative from losing by the numbers, I think you could use a negate on it then.
-
Great thanks guys; Gam's speech is definitely a good idea as well. I was up against a tough deck. He had Moses in play and just left him there as a static Negate while using Clouds Heros and Enhancements to run the field.
-
could he use Covenant of Noah as an artifact to negate confusion?

No because CoN can only target enhancements in play.
-
Elaborate is confusion not in play?
-
After it completes, it removes itself from the game.
-
I understand but Covenant of Noah says interrupt and prevent one evil enhancement discard after use? you don't need special initiative to use an artifact do you? And you should be able to interrupt confusion right?

This came up in a game last night with Foul Spirit blocking David the Shepherd who had just used a Roman Spear to decrease someone. Discarding Roman Spear is part of the ability.
Foul Spirit blocked but Guardian said the Roman Spear was not negated because it was in the dc pile..
For some reason I thought we were referring to abilities when negating abilities, so it could have been negated and came back
If itb and negate affect last, how do these cards have to be in play when their ability is what is being affected? Same goes with gams and si.. I understand gams is negate last, but it is still referring an ability used, not a card out of play..

Why are we still having trouble with negates?

To answer the bolded part, it's the same reason as everything else: abilities default to play unless stated otherwise. At the moment Foul Spirit enters battle, it tries to negate characters and enhancements in play. Roman Spear is not in play. FS doesn't specify like GamSpeech or FAC that it can hit things that are out of play when they resolve.
This is how I've always understood it. I don't think I'm wrong, but if I am, some elder can correct me.
Why are we still having trouble with negates?
New players will always have trouble with negates. Players like me, however, have no excuse. :P

i get the defaults to play but what about interrupt last
this is where jmhartz has been coming back to over the flood and getting si
