Title: Brass Serpent + Set Aside
Post by: SomeKittens on February 18, 2011, 10:49:02 AM
If all my heroes are set aside, and my opponent pops DD, can I heal them with Brass Serpent?

Yes.
I was under the impression that in order to heal w/ Brass Serpant you had to have a hero to play it on, is this not the case?

Related Q, same scenario: Can I use I Am Healing to heal the heroes, or since it says 'in play' would it not be able to?

That is true, you must have a character to activate any enhancement. Healing cards are a special exception in that the Hero does not have to be in play, it can also be in the discard pile provided it was discarded on the same turn you heal it.

Here's a clarification that's being added to the REG:

Quote from: New REG
A healing enhancement played in this way must be played on a character of matching brigade in one of two ways:  (1) on a character in the holder's territory or (2) on a character in the holder's discard pile (if the character was discarded  in the same turn). Both result in that character being healed.  Healing cards played on a character in a discard pile must target the same character.

Related Q, same scenario: Can I use I Am Healing to heal the heroes, or since it says 'in play' would it not be able to?

I think the wording of I Am Healing would limit it's targets.

You can't use Brass Serpent anyway since the "no playing without an EC in battle" part of DD lasts until the end of the phase even if it's Discarded. Only The New Covenant can save Heroes from DD.

Could you not just wait and play Brass Serpent in a following phase after DD fizzles?

Yes, you could.

Unless your opponent is sneaky enough to pop DD during the discard phase, (which a player of Pol's capability surely would), in which case the answer is no.

so how does this coincide with the Gates of Hell deck that Kirk played with and what is the ruling on that?

Gates of Hell let's you discard at any time. So unless you are really silly and wait until the discard phase of your turn to start using Gates of Hell, Brass Serpent could heal any discarded heroes in a later phase.
