How long do their protection abilities last for, until the end of phase or indefinitely?

From the way both of them are worded it seems like the protection lasts until they leave territory.

So even when Blinding Light is used and discarded, or Ananias is discarded in battle their protect abilities continue on through the game while Paul sits in territory? I guess that's the point so that Saul/Paul isn't reset right away if he's recovered from discard pile.
