Title: Battle challenge question
Post by: redemption collector 777 on April 13, 2014, 07:54:00 PM
1. Just wondering if a player denies a battle challenge against another player "did they lose that BC" because they refused to put a character to block with?

If I remember correctly, refusing to block a battle challenge counts as 'losing' the battle challenge, or the challenging player 'winning'.  This meets with the current definition of Taunt, as well.

However, I cannot find the rule right now :(

Not sure where it's written either but +1 w/ Redoubter.

I remember finding a rule on it that made it so that Joshua (http://redemption.wikia.com/wiki/Joshua_(WC)_(P)) counted as winning a challenge if unblocked.  I can do more searching tonight when I have more time, but I think there has been a thread on this in the past 2 years...

Otherwise, the taunt of Golitath would be COMPLETELY useless.

Actually he is not useless because if his taunt is not accepted, he makes you discard a hero

I think that's what he meant, that if an un-answered BC wasn't a successful BC then Goliath's Taunt would be useless, which it would. :P

Yep. That's what I meant. In fact, I pretty much never use the taunt, because my opponent answers with a little hero who plays a CBN battle winner and Goliath is gone. GONE! *sniff*

On the Taunt issue, Taunt specifically states what happens if you refuse to accept, that is why it is different from battle challenge in general.  We don't want that to get confused, as Taunt works regardless of how 'winning a battle challenge' is determined, because it is defined separately in its ability.  You can find it on the REG.

I would like to revisit this thread as I had the same question as the original poster, but the question was never answered. I am asking in regards to Raider's Camp as RA states "When opponent makes a successful rescue attempt or battle challenge...release all heroes from here instead."

The REG does not state under the Battle Challenge section whether the BC is lost if the opponent refuses to accept it or not; however, buried under the Taunt section the last line states this:

"If you decline any kind of battle challenge, you lose the battle challenge."

This appears to be the answer to the original question, but I'm also wondering why this sentence isn't under the Battle Challenge section in addition to the Taunt section instead of it just being under the Taunt section only. IMO it would be more appropriately placed under the BC section of the REG, in addition to the Taunt section, as it is part of the BC explanation and would be easier to find if this question comes up again.
