Does Baal Worship negate a convert ability or do you have to play it beforehand to protect?
Baal Worship
Type: Evil Enhancement
Brigade: Crimson
Special Ability: Evil Characters may not repent this turn.
Verse: 1 kings 16:31
-
It is a protect, which means it does not negate, and thus must be played before the convert in order to work.
-
OK thanks! that is what I thought but I wasn't positive.
-
Actually BB, I assumed the same thing, but it looks like we're wrong regarding the ability type. Check out the Play As:
Baal Worship
Type: Evil Enh. • Brigade: Crimson • Ability: None • Class: None • Special Ability: Evil Characters may not repent this turn. • Play As: Prevent conversion of Evil Characters this turn. • Identifiers: OT, False Religious Practice • Verse: I Kings 16:31 • Availability: Prophets booster packs (Common)
So you still have to play it before any conversions.

Well that play as goes against the rules of protect vs. prevent. The wording affects the characters that it doesn't want to be targeted, not the characters that are targeting them, which makes it a protect ability, not a prevent.
-
hmmm...
-
the wording is correct. May not=prevent. Cannot=protect. that's how I've always played bad wording, at least...
-
May not=prevent. Cannot=protect.
I really don't think that's how it works.
-
I don't either. "Cannot be captured" = "may not be captured". The play as does in fact change the card from a protect (worded like Blue Tassels) to a prevent, which would then be an errata.
-
ah. I just noticed that was the way it was with Lydia and JT, so I assumed it would be the same way with a lot of cards. oops.

inconsistency. ban it!
