Title: Arrest in Gethsemane
Post by: Josh on February 03, 2013, 11:31:01 AM
Arrest in Gethesemane protects all lost souls from rescue by Angels and Dominants for 3 turns and is TC.  If I play it during my Prep phase on, say, turn 1, when does it discard itself?  It gets its third counter in my Upkeep phase of turn 4, but does it actually get discarded in my prep phase of turn 4 (when set-asides normally return to territory)?

Counters update in Upkeep. At that time, if a card has reached its counter limit, you resolve the ability (return from set aside for most set aside cards, discard the card in this case).

Ok, I have seen a lot of good players bring back their Pentecosted heroes, play some cards to territory, then draw 3 from Pentecost (in case their opponent is waiting to drop Mayhem).  And one Elder told me that you can do the draw from set-asides anytime during your Prep phase; so you could Captured Ark their RBD away or something first.

That play is not legal, the draw happens as soon as the Heroes are brought back. However, you are not required to bring them back right away, you can perform other prep phase actions first.

Remember, the Heroes are not brought back during upkeep--only counters are added.

So for example...

I have all my Heroes set aside with Pentecost. My opponent activates RBD on his turn. I add a counter during my Upkeep Phase. During my Prep Phase, I can use Captured Ark to negate and shuffle RBD before bringing back my Heroes and drawing 3. I cannot bring back the Heroes, play a TC enhancement on one of those Heroes to knock out RBD and then do the Draw 3.

Does that make sense/help?

Allow me to once again exercise my 1st Amendment right to urge my elected appointed officials to consider the following rule change(s):

1. Abilities triggered during the upkeep phase get carried out in the upkeep phase.
2. Artifact activation becomes its own phase in between Upkeep and Prep (or is the required first step of Prep).

Signed,
Petitioner

Certainly in support of this concept.  It would simplify the rules and make the turn more streamlined while at the same time making everything consistent.

I'm also in favor of STAMP's proposal.  Artifact activation/deactivation needs its own phase.

Well, this ruins my plan to use Arrest in Gethsemane twice (via Abe's Kids) for a total of 6 turns...  In a multiplayer game...  Now I can only get 5 turns out of it.  Maybe I'll still give it a try...  Heck, it's multiplayer.  If I haven't lost by the time I play out AiG, then 5 turns will be more than enough, since my heroes will be walking in anyways.  Who plays defense in multiplayer?

Who plays defense in multiplayer?

What do you mean? Everyone plays defense in multiplayer. It's required for a person to have a third to a half of his cards be evil...

Oh wait...that's right, there's a multiplayer for those people that use those tiny decks. Always forget about that.
