So I'm building decks based around a specific theme and had a question about this card in my paralyze deck.
If I play All Hope Lost then play a card like Darkness (WA) or Dissuading Speech does that qualify as all of those heroes not making a successful rescue attempt, as they did not rescue a lost soul, or do I have to block the new character as well?
All Hope Lost: If Hero(s) in battle returns to territory without making a successful rescue, Hero(s) may not enter battle until healed.
Darkness (WA): All Heroes in battle lose their way and withdraw. Opponent must present a new Hero or rescue attempt fails.
Dissuading Speech: Holder may choose the Hero his opponent uses in battle.

I'm fairly certain that any Hero that is not in battle during battle resolution would not have made a successful rescue.

That was what I was thinking but wanted to confirm as this deck will be built around using this type of combo multiple times.

Did the hero(es) return to territory? Yes, they had to withdraw/another hero was chosen as rescuer. Did they make a Successful RA before they went back to territory? No, the battle hadn't finished yet. Ergo, they returned to territory without making a successful RA and would be paralyzed. Not sure how it could be ruled any other way.

What about the new hero entering battle after you play The Darkness or DS? Would they not be paralyzed because they weren't in battle when All Hope Lost was played?

You mean if they lose the over all battle? that's an interesting question, but I think All Hope Lost only applies to heroes already in battle when it is played.
